There is good news on the horizon for South Carolinians who want in-person assistance to navigate their health insurance options. The BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina retail centers will reopen beginning in May.

Openings of the three retail stores in the state will be staggered:

• May 3, 2021 — Columbia Retail Center: 1260 Bower Parkway, Suite A4, Columbia, SC 29212
• May 17, 2021 — Greenville Retail Center: 1025 Woodruff Road, Suite A105, Greenville, SC 29607
• June 1, 2021 — Mount Pleasant Retail Center: 1795 North Highway 17, Unit 7, Mount Pleasant, SC 29464

“We are committed to keeping South Carolinians safe and healthy, and we will be following Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines as we reopen our stores,” said Denise Jefferson, director of direct marketing and retail strategies with BlueCross. “We understand selecting health care is an important decision, and some customers need a more face-to-face interaction to find the best plan for their lives. That’s why it is so important to reopen our brick-and-mortar stores during the special enrollment period.”

The current special enrollment period for the exchange insurance market is open until Aug. 15, 2021. Consumers who are eligible for an Affordable Care Act (ACA) health insurance plan and are not currently covered by a health insurance plan may sign up for coverage.

BlueCross retail centers will operate by appointment only. Store capacity will be limited to 10 people including employees. Waiting areas will be closed, so customers are urged to call the center when they arrive to check in for their appointment. Face masks must be worn while in the center, and customers will be asked to confirm they have not had any COVID-19 symptoms or exposure.
