ActionsBlue TermSM short-term health insurance plans can help fill gaps in your coverage during times of transition. They offer temporary health insurance to help pay unexpected health care costs while you’re not covered by a traditional health plan.
If you're looking for a traditional health plan, learn more about our Affordable Care Act plans.
Is a short-term plan right for me?
You may want to consider a short-term health insurance plan if:
- You have a new job and are waiting for benefits to start.
- You missed Open Enrollment and don’t qualify for a Special Enrollment Period.
- You’re still in college, just graduated, or turned 26 and left your parents’ insurance plan.
- You don’t want to use COBRA insurance
As with all health plans, there are some restrictions. Blue Term plans don’t cover pre-existing conditions.
What is a pre-existing condition?
A pre-existing condition is one where symptoms exist that would cause a reasonable person to seek diagnosis, care or treatment within a one-year period before the effective date of the policy; or a condition for which you received medical advice or treatment from a physician or other clinician within a five-year period before the effective date of the policy, whether or not a specific condition was diagnosed. Coverage is not available for pre-existing conditions. This does not change whether or not you list the names of your providers, we ask, or if you tell us about the condition on this application or if the services or benefits needed are medically necessary.
Our network
With a Blue Term short-term insurance plan, you can choose from an extensive list of in-network providers. Most are based in South Carolina. Check our provider directory to see which providers are in our network.
